~ Don’t work hard, work smart; let your resources work for you ~
VOLUME 2 ISSUE 3 MARCH, 2010
Howdy Partner!! If you are a Houstonian, then you know what time of year it is. Yep! You said it – Rodeo Time! Yes, the trail riders have made it in, the scent of Bar-B-Q is in the air, the carnival attractions are in motion, and Interstate 610 is backed up! Woo-Hoo, there is nothing like the smell of fresh cow manure in the morning to get your day started – LOL!
Well, in this month’s letter we are going to continue to discuss PC Upkeep.
So far we have discussed removing unused programs from our systems and space saving ideas; you can read these tips in our January and February issues. This month we will focus on regular hard drive cleaning.
Now, I know many of you may say that I’m sharing basic information with you, but you will be amazed at how many of us tend to overlook the basics, only to end up with serious regret over losing everything. Our computers are powerful yet fragile systems. It is because they are so powerful that they are susceptible to a lot from us and predators alike.
If you are an avid user of the internet, then you need to be mindful of your system and its hard drive by scheduling regular virus updates, checking and running regular windows systems updates, and cleaning your hard drive of needless files. Some of the things you can do to keep your system running smoothly is cleaning out temporary files, discarding or emptying your system trashed files, getting rid of files you no longer need or use, and cleaning up fragmented files. Running built-in tools like ScanDisk (a.k.a. Clean Disk), Disk Defragmentation, and regular virus scans can truly extend the life of your system.
ScanDisk checks for errors, disk defragmentation cleans up all the particles of files left behind from the clean up, and your virus scan detects and protects your system from the harm of corruption. To get to these tools, click on the start menu > right click on your “C:” drive > select properties > choose the “Tools” tab. In order to run your virus screen, you need to access your current antivirus software and follow its directions.
I truly hope you are enjoying these tips and if you would like to give any feedback or offer any suggestions, please feel free to drop us a note via our contact page or by email to news@krbadminre.com.
